Galatians

In this commentary we will cover every verse of Paul’s epistle to the Galatians. This was originally an 88 part study course taught at Living Word Bible Church over almost two years. The teaching found in this book of the Bible is vital for every generation of believers. This is especially true today when so many Christians are caught up in experience based doctrines, Hebrew Roots and Hyper-grace for instance. The devil loves extremes because they keep people off centre. The problems that the modern church is facing are hardly any different, as we shall see, from those of the church in Galatia. Sadly, believers today are involved in works based ways to please God, and in doing so, are hindering their spiritual growth. Some think that by immersing themselves in religious activities, ceremonies and Jewish feast days, they will become more mature in Christ. Several people I am acquainted with, who are learning Hebrew and practicing the customs of Judaism, have become spiritually and mentally insecure. Unfortunately they are listening to the wrong teachers.It is not the aim of this volume to attack any particular group, regardless of how erroneous their beliefs and practices may be. Instead, in our original studies, we set out to find out exactly what the apostle Paul was teaching in the letter. It was nothing short of a real eye opener as we investigated each word, phrase and paragraph. The more that we studied, greater was the light that was shed on our understanding of the Cross, salvation and sanctification. Yes, heretical doctrines and practices were highlighted, and we soon realised that Satan was still playing the same old game of mixing Biblical Christianity with religion, ritual and rules.This letter was one of Martin Luther’s favourite texts, and upon it was build what would become The Reformation. John Wesley started a revival by preaching from this letter. How we need a return to the standards laid out in Galatians! Today’s church has lost its way, lost sight of the centrality of Christ, and hardly knows what the Cross is about other than it being the wood that Jesus died on. Hopefully this commentary will go some way in remedying this situation.
