Pepe, the Guardia Civil chancer, experiences a hitch in the cut-and-thrust of his little would-be earner in the drug business when his partner is found, ready for the compost heap. Asking gangsters for help turns out to be a bad idea, as is dumping Simon’s body in an old car. And it had all looked so easy and profitable!
Jesús is busy hindering the police, carrying out his own investigation into Simon’s death as it seems a client is a suspect, a man he doesn’t believe to be guilty. He now knows how Juan died and who was involved. His path now is to reconcile his family with the truth and to find a way forward. Meanwhile, he is also trying to help the Priest who is visibly and audibly unravelling.
Juan befriends Simon (Pepe’s would-be drug partner) and begins what becomes a series of attempts to help Simon seek insights into his life. His own apparition as Sparrow takes flight and aids in his forays into viewing the Materium.
Sargenta Carmen, CO of the Pueblo Guardia, is investigating both murders, and seeking to uncover the source of Pueblo’s drug supply. She won’t be winning any popularity contests as a result of any of this.
