The book describes a born-again relationship between Jesus and an individual. The gospels were always intended to be understood as a personal requirement. Through the hundreds of years that have followed from the time of Jesus, the gospels have mutated to be much more Church oriented than person oriented. Additionally, the relationship between God and Mankind had become human- oriented, not God oriented.
