Brothers of Cossack Mettle: Homeland Lost

€ 4,58

December 27, 1918: Prykarpattia is on fire. Andriy is devastated. He feels he has failed beyond all redemption after Marusia’s miscarriage during Grozny’s attack, and his execution of the Soviet prisoner. Staring into the abyss before his grandparents’ graves, he sees no other choice, but to end it all. Luckily, Andriy’s long lost comrade, Vitaliy, returns before he pulls the trigger.

Andriy, and his family and friends, stand at another crossroads. The ashes of his village are not even cold yet when new victims of the war appear, renewing their resolve. The harshness of their struggle, along with that of their homeland, defied everyone’s imaginations. To survive, they must regroup and resist, or be crushed. Russia and Poland’s tightening grip on Ukraine presses them all into a bind. Their new friends, Roman and Matey, move west to L’viv to fight the Poles with the Ukrainian Galician Army. Meanwhile, Andriy, Marusia, Vitaliy, Nestor and Lesya move east towards Kyiv with Petliura’s forces to pursue Grozny’s Soviet cohorts.

Though they are forced apart, they are united in their cause. They march on into the blue and yellow dawn. They, like their fellow Ukrainians, are torn between two fronts. It is another bitter winter, but their fortunes improve when the western and central Ukrainian armies unite in summer. They meet new comrades, and their family grows bigger, when they join with their Ukrainian countrymen for one final fight with their encroaching enemies. Can they prove their mettle, or is their homeland lost?
