Keneburga (kenberg, kyneburga), the first abbess of St. Peter's, Gloucester, accord ing to the Gloucester Chronicle (ed. Hart, pp. Lxxu. 4, She is said to have been a sister of Osric and Oswald, the ealdormen or under-kings of the Hwiccii, to have been blessed by Bosel bishop of Worcester, and to have governed the monastery for twenty-nine years, which, reckoned from the reputed date of foundation, 681, would fix her death in 710. She is also called the wife of Aldred king of N orthumbria (mon. Angl. I. She is said to have been buried beside her brother before the altar of St. Petronilla in her own church.
