Each year the National Institutes of Health prepares a comprehensive listing of the scientific and technical publications of its staff. The bibliography, prepared for scientists within and outside the organization, for medical libraries and other medical research institutions and laboratories, as well as for interested lay persons, presents a synoptic picture of direct research performed by Nih scientists at Bethesda and in the field.
This bibliography includes only papers presenting original work published during 1957. Titles are arranged by Institute and Division, and assigned to the Laboratory to which the senior author was attached when the work was done. To reflect the contribution of all authors associate as well as senior as well as the total contribution of each unit, a cross-referenced author index is provided for each Institute and Division.
Viewed in toto, the studies reflected in these publications constitute an extensive and complex approach to the major medical and biological problems of today.
