Since overcoming her anxiety and appearing in the schooltalent show, things had been going well for Nellie. She’s come the leadchoreographer for the after-school dance club, she’s been having weeklysleepovers at her grandparents, and she’s part of the Sparkle Club, where she,Emmie, and Carly help other kids in the neighborhood.

But recently, when she was walking home from school, a big,fluffly, goldendoodle in a jeans jacket, named Rufus broke off his leash and chasedher down the street.
