Havana
Productinformatie
Since it freed itself in 1898 from Spanish domination, Havana never ceased to expand through the continuous creation of districts away from the old city. From old colonial houses to contemporary buildings, Havana embodies an amazing eclecticism that combines the baroque heritage of the conquistadors with more recently imported styles that offer unexpected juxtapositions; art nouveau, art deco and 'neo' of all kinds. This colourful mosaic, which mirrors the different communities' contributions to Havana - from the ancient aristocracy to the Creoles, the Afro-Cubans and the Chinese - gives the city its very specific character and also reflects the influences of America and Europe, which built its destiny. Havana provides an extensive study of this major historical city, with more than 250 previously unpublished photographs giving an inspiring overview of its architecture and history.
