After attempting to drill into the inner core of the Earth for alternative sources of energy a team of scientists must come up with a solution to repair a crack they create that threatens the entire planet.

Things become even more complicated when Dr. Stephen Sorenson (Andrews) is diagnosed with cancer but attempts to keep the news from his wife Dr. Maggie Sorenson (Scott) and fellow colleague Dr. Ted Rampion (Moore).
